About Us

The name of this boutique hotel refers to George Sutherland, a founder of the Mackay School, currently located in Viña del Mar, a former owner of property located on Cerro Alegre, a sector with a strong tradition of cultural and artistic activity that has become a center of tourism development, with a wide and varied range of theatrical establishments, dining, lodging and art exhibitions and workshops, with a large influx of foreign visitors from around the world.

The "Sutherland House Project" involved the restoration of the building and its subsequent transformation and empowerment for the hotel function described keeping the architectural style of the original building, according to the will of the owners, Berta and Claudio Corvalan Aravena.

Claudius is a physical education teacher and track coach, son of Claudio Corvalan Espinoza Bone and Maria Isabel Figueroa, has 2 sisters and was born in Valparaiso in 1955.

His parents created and developed the company credits Patricia, between 1958 and 1985, a small multi-shop came to have a portfolio of close to 3 000 clients, and occupied the same premises as the hotel.

Berta is basic general education teacher, daughter of Robert and Maria Luisa Contreras Aravena, is the oldest of 7 siblings and was born in San Felipe in 1957.

His parents were devoted to agricultural area in plots sector Herrera street on the way to Putaendo. Berta was the first woman from her community to pursue higher education at the University.

Berta and Claudio are known by the end of his studies at the Catholic University of Valparaiso (UCV) and married in 1981. They have 2 children: Macarena, speech pathologist at the University of Valparaiso, and Claudio, a civil engineer from the University computer Santa Maria.

In this new stage of life, Corvalan Aravena take a turn towards a business option, with the support of his family. They have also received support from two major institutions, such as CORFO and the Bank SantanderSantiago.

The building av Germany 4966, Cerro Alegre, originally of 430 m2, has been transformed into a setting of 9 bedrooms, all overlooking the city and bay. It is a boutique hotel that has been created just for the highest international standards.
